Parents/Caregivers/Teachers

Small boy reading in the library. How can you support your children as they grow? Introduce them to the library at an early age!

The Marion Library has a wealth of children's programming and early literacy activities (see our EventsStory Time, and Reading Program pages). We encourage you to attend programs with your children and to participate in the activities: they will learn what you model for them! Remember to be attentive, turn off your cell phones, and don't talk during the stories.

We also offer library tours for classes, troops, or whoever would like to schedule one.  On occasion, our children’s staff can do special visits.  Contact Olivia Stoner, our Children’s Services Coordinator, for details.

Online Resources for Children
The Library subscribes to some very helpful databases, including:

Explora Primary from Ebsco, and Kids InfoBits from Gale: Topical news and magazine articles especially for kids.

Tumblebooks: online animated talking picture books for kids.

Pronunciator and Transparent Language: Learn languages through native conversations. Basic courses for travelers and complete courses for more advanced learning.

The Digital Public Library of America has access to digitized information and archives, and features interesting online "exhibits" that change regularly!

Here is a wonderful page from the American Library Association of recommended sites for children in various categories (Animals, Arts, History & Biography, Literature & Languages, Reference Desk, Mathematics & Computers, Sciences, and Social Sciences).
